Our criteria for having your post accepted and made live on our website is pretty straight forward. When writing your post consider the following:
- Your post should be a minimum of 750 words in length.
- Within the body of your post you may include one text link for every 150 words. For example if your post is 750 words in length then it should contain a maximum of 5 text links in the body of the post. This does not include the author bio.
- You may include an author bio, a paragraph or two about yourself and/or your company which should not exceed 250 words.
- In your author bio you may include a maximum of two text links that point to two different URL’s, which belong to you or your company.
- You may not use affiliate links anywhere within the body of your post or within your author bio.
- When you insert text links into the body of your post or into your author bio it is ok to use keyword rich anchor text.
- We may or may not edit your post, if that happens please don’t be offended if we suggest changes.
- Avoid heavy self promotion. Many post submissions that we receive (and reject) are full of self promotion of the person submitting and consist mostly of links to their own website and do not contain any real value to readers. These types of submissions give us little motivation to use them and they get rejected. When guest blogging you need to write a post that makes readers think, that makes them interested and creates a desire in the reader to want to read more of your posts.
- Familiarize yourself with the types of topics that we blog about on link-popularity.org before you begin to write a blog post and submit it to us. Just browse through a few of our blog posts and you’ll get an idea of the topics that are of interest to us. Look for posts on our website that have a lot of comments. Generally the more comments a post has, the more it interested our readers.
- Consider whether the topic that you are writing about has been recently covered on our website. If we receive a submission on a topic that has been covered within the last 30 days we are likely going to reject it. Browse our website and look at the dates on our posts. Try to write on a topic that has not been recently blogged about on link-popularity.org. We don’t mind posting topics that have been repeated before as long as our guest bloggers wanted to provide a new perspective and fresh ideas on a previously covered topic, then we will accept their submissions.
- Don’t write a guest blog posting for us and then send it to other websites for publishing as well. We politely request the exclusive right to publish your blog post. We do check before and periodically after it has been made live on our website to ensure the same content has not been published elsewhere on the web. If we discover that you’ve published the same blog post elsewhere on the web we’ll delete your post from our website and all future guest blogging submissions from you will be rejected.
- Search engine optimize your blog post as you are writing it. Spend a few minutes on Google’s keyword tool and do some quick research. Pick two keywords and write a few occurrences of them into the body of your post. Write one occurrence of your keywords into your post title. Submissions that do not appear to be optimized for at least one keyword will likely be rejected unless they provide super-fantastic value to our readers.
- One of the things that we like to see in a post submitted to us is cross links within a blog post to previous posts on our website. It shows us that the person submitting the post is familiar with previously written posts on our website and it adds value to the post while helping to promote previous posts from our website. Including only links to the web pages that belong to the person who submitted the post can provide value to readers if it is relevant and this is an acceptable practice with us, but we do prefer that a blog post submitted to us contain cross links to previous posts on our website.
- Formatting your guest blogging submission before you submit it to us is helpful and we appreciate when you take a couple of minutes to format it for us. We like to see a post submission formatted with H2 headings and HTML links so that we know how you intend the post to be displayed. Please keep this in mind when you use the submission form below.
- Using images in your post is ok and we do like to see posts submitted to us that have an image in them. Adding an image of your own is great, but it does take us extra time to include your image in your post when it goes live on our website. If you send us an image with your post please be sure to include proper attribution and credit for the image. Consider providing us with the URL to a relevant Creative Commons image on Flickr, that will speed things up for us on our end when we make your post live on our website.
- Promote your guest blog posting after it goes live on our website. You might be thinking to yourself “that’s not my job.” But here’s a perspective you may not have considered before. The last thing many guest bloggers wanted to happen is for their guest blogging on our website to be a flop, especially if it is the first time you’ve written for us. After you submit your post to us and it goes live, that is the ideal opportunity for you to promote someone else and demonstrate your willingness to engage in the community. Promote your guest blog posting with the same care and attention that you would to your own blog. We’ve been told that guest bloggers wanted to promote their post on our website, and that’s fine with us, just don’t spam. Consider tweeting it to your twitter followers, posting it on Digg, facebook and StumbleUpon. Email it to your friends and colleagues.
- Watch for comments on your blog post and be responsive. After your post goes live on our website you should treat every comment on the post as if it were on your own website. Every person that comments on your blog post took the time to read your post and is a potential subscriber that you will want to win over. Respond to some of the more thoughtful comments on a personal level and directly engage the commenter as early and as often as you have time for. Please do be polite to commenter’s.
If you’ve made it this far and have actually read everything above then you’re chances of having your post accepted are significantly higher than those who skimmed to this point in the page. We know your time is precious and we appreciate it. If you still have a question just contact us and ask. We’ll reply in a timely manner.
